Connecting Roots
What shapes you,
what you believe in?
These are the roots
What makes you feel resilient?
How you are planted within your community,
What are your core values?
Our identities are at the core,
how we take up space within our community,
What keeps you grounded?
These are the roots
how you are planted within
your community,
Our identities
at the core
Of how we take up space
within our communities,
allowing ourselves to remember
Everyone has different roots.
A different plant,
A tree,
Growing through what feels
Like concrete at times,
our roots interconnected beneath..

Connecting Roots space took place at Bard Hall, located on Annandale-on-Hudson. Bard Hall was founded by Margaret and John Bard as a chapel in 1852 and was the first "communal space" for the neighboring communities. Holding this space for students of color who tirelessly uphold the institution through invisible labor, reclaiming this small space for all community at a predominately white institution.
